Advanced ICU Care® hires Director of Clinical Services; promotes Lead Nurse

ST. LOUIS (February 1, 2008) – Advanced ICU Care, providing continuous specialist care and monitoring of hospital ICU patients through telemedicine technology, announced today that Pat Michaels, MSN, RN, has joined the company as Director of Clinical Services.  The company also promoted Geary Gardner, BSN, RN, CCRN, to the role of Lead Nurse.

Serving as director of clinical services, Michaels will oversee the company’s nursing and health care associate staff, who care for and remotely monitor hospital ICU patients across the country from Advanced ICU Care’s eICU® Operations Center in St. Louis.  She will also support the clinical program implementation at new hospitals and help manage client service operations.  

“With 30 years of experience in management, consulting and patient care, Pat brings considerable expertise to this role,” said Gary Anderson, MHA, RN, FACHE, director of operations at Advanced ICU Care.  “Her focus on quality and operations improvement will help our eICU program continue to grow and deliver improved patient care and safety results for our clients.  We’re also pleased to announce Geary’s promotion,” continued Anderson. “His leadership and mentoring skills, critical care expertise and experience with the eICU technology make him an ideal fit for this role.” 

As lead nurse, Gardner will train Advanced ICU Care’s nurses as well as the ICU staff at the company’s client hospitals, prepare schedules for the 20-plus nursing and health care associate staff, and help support clinical program implementation.  Gardner has been a staff nurse with Advanced ICU Care since January 2006 and has 10 years nursing experience. He holds a bachelor’s of nursing degree from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville and is certified in critical care nursing.

Most recently, Michaels was a director in the healthcare advisory practice for PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where she assisted clients in all areas of operations improvement, quality management, growth strategies and physician relationship development.  Other career highlights include director of critical care/emergency services at DePaul Health Center as well as management and staff nurse positions at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Michaels holds a master’s of nursing administration and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from St. Louis University in St. Louis, and a nursing diploma from Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis.  She is a registered nurse in Missouri.
