ST. LOUIS (June 12, 2006) – Advanced ICU Care announced today that it has established an independent board to provide advice and leadership as the company continues to expand its critical care monitoring services to community hospitals across the country. A medical service company providing high-quality, remote critical care, Advanced ICU Care connects critical care medicine physicians (intensivists) to patients in intensive care units using sophisticated telemedicine technology.
Reflecting the company’s focus on providing this life-saving model of care, Advanced ICU Care’s advisory board consists of six individuals serving the healthcare community across a number of disciplines. The company’s advisory board members include Kenneth Bentley, M.D.; Phil Dellinger, M.D.; Jeff Goldsmith, Ph.D.; Stan Pappelbaum, M.D.; Rick Richards; and Roy Walters.

Dr. Kenneth Bentley currently serves as the medical director of the ICU at SSM – St. Joseph Hospital of Kirkwood in St. Louis, Missouri. He chairs the Special Care Unit Committee and participates on the Institutional Review Board at SSM – St. Joseph Hospital of Kirkwood, the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and the Infectious Disease Committee. Under his leadership, patient ventilator time, particularly in the postoperative patient, has been reduced. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine, and is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Phil Dellinger is professor of medicine at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and director of the critical care at Cooper Health System, USA. A past president of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and co-editor of one of the major critical care textbooks, he has spent most of his academic career researching, writing and teaching sepsis. He was co-chair of the landmark consensus conference on definitions of sepsis, resulting in a publication of currently used definitions of sepsis and SIRS, and he remains actively involved in the care of the critically ill septic patient, clinical and laboratory research in sepsis, and sepsis education. He is a senior editor for Critical Care Medicine journal and past chair of the International Sepsis Forum.
Dr. Jeff Goldsmith is president of Health Futures, Inc., a firm specializing in corporate strategic planning and forecasting future health care trends. He is also an associate professor of medical education at the University of Virginia’s School of Medicine. For 11 years ending in 1990, Goldsmith was a lecturer in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago on health services management and policy. He has also lectured at the Harvard Business School, the Wharton School of Finance, Johns Hopkins, Washington University and the University of California at Berkeley. He is a member of the editorial board of Health Affairs.
Dr. Stan Pappelbaum is managing partner of Pappelbaum, Turner & Associates, a national healthcare consultancy. His expertise spans over 15 years in academic and private practice medicine as well as more than 10 years as a senior executive in complex not-for-profit health systems (most recently as president and chief executive officer of ScrippsHealth, a five-hospital system). He holds teaching appointments at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and San Diego State University, Graduate School of Public Health. Pappelbaum is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology and is a certified Physician Executive of the American College of Physician Executives. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physician Executives and a member of the American Medical Association.
A successful healthcare entrepreneur, Rick Richards has developed and grown two healthcare companies, Tinsley Physical Therapy Inc., providing contract management services for rehabilitation services, and Richards Healthcare, a rehabilitation management and healthcare staffing company. Founded in 1991 by Richards, Richards Healthcare was one of the fastest growing companies in the Houston area, helping to ease the therapist shortage for its client hospitals. In July, Richards will serve as chief executive officer for Integra Hospital Management, a newly formed company developing and operating rehabilitation hospitals.
Roy Walters is vice president and general manager of INFOHEALTH Management Corp., a healthcare information technology management and consulting firm. A highly accomplished healthcare information systems consultant, Walters has an outstanding record of building and growing IT consulting organizations, and helping healthcare providers maximize the value of their IT investments. Prior to his current role, Walters served in various leadership positions for First Consulting Group, a $300 million healthcare IT services firm. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
