Advanced ICU Care was founded by nationally known intensivist physicians who had firsthand experience with the difficulties hospitals experience in recruiting intensivists for their ICUs. Research demonstrated that 24/7 monitoring by these intensivists saved lives and improved patient care in the ICU, yet most hospitals could not attain this level of staffing due to a serious national shortage of these specialists.
Advanced ICU Care provided a viable, sustainable solution and consultative approach to change management for this problem: 24/7 monitoring by board-certified intensivists using sophisticated telemedicine technology and a rigorous system to achieve adherence to evidence-based medical best practices throughout the ICU.
In 2005 Advanced ICU Care became the first independent organization to license its sophisticated telemedicine technology platform for the ICU. In 2006 Advanced ICU Care launched its first tele-ICU program. Within that first year, the tele-ICU model demonstrated its ability to achieve significant improvement in ICU mortality, throughput, patient growth and nurse and physician satisfaction.
Today, Advanced ICU Care manages more tele-ICU programs than any other organization in the country, with a proven track record of improving ICU performance, saving lives, and raising the standard of healthcare in every community it serves.
